Lately I have been feeling weighed down by material possessions. It’s like I woke up and didn’t feel the need to own so much shit. I’m not sure where the idea came even from. I mentioned it to my husband and we started entertaining the idea of minimalism.
I’m a self proclaimed fashionista. I love to shop and have a good time. I see something I want – I buy it. Simple. With all the chaos in the world I begin to lose interest in those things over time.
Maybe its time to focus on what really matters.
I have a closet full of clothes and some still have tags on them. I have enough Christmas decorations for 3 houses. It’s ridiculous! Why do I need 10 different pairs of black heels? Why? I get more Amazon packages than I do house guests.
Don’t get me wrong, I like nice things but I would prefer to have the just the essentials. I don’t want to feel burdened but the things that I own.
Let the journey to minimalism begin!
Now… if you really know me, you know this won’t be easy for me so I decided to start off slow.
Step 1- PURGE. This weekend we had a garage sale. We got rid of a lot of junk. There was stuff in the garage I didn’t even know I had.
Step 2- NO MORE SHOPPING. Well not exactly… but I decided I would shop in my closet and if I wanted to buy something I would get rid of something else. Simple rule right?
So far I am doing good. One week of minimalistic bliss!
On Saturday we went out and instead of buying a new outfit like I normally would- I shopped in my closet! Found a LBD and paired it with my favorite black cape blazer.
Shopping in my close was kind of fun. The key to shopping in your closet is to pair things together you wouldn’t normally wear. Imagine you are a stranger shopping in your own closet. Reintroduce yourself to your clothes. Not sure where to start? Invite your bestie over and have her pick out something to wear from your closet. You’d be surprised what she finds. Good Luck!
